To Spam or Not to Spam
By Mike | July 5, 2008
In the past 2 days, I’ve listened to two marketers with two totally different ways of pushing their product to the market. One was Howie Schwartz and the other was John Reese. Both say that a serious marketer has to own a larger piece of the web but the way they approached the situation is totally different.
Howie blatantly endorsed spamming and talked of having 700,000+ twitter followers on multiple accounts. He even said he wears a shirt that says he’s a spammer. John Reese on the other end says that we must know what the people want and give it to them and did not mention anything related to spamming. Howie sells a product that automatically submits to social bookmarking websites and John sells a product that basically does research.
Which one is more effective? Both claim that what they’re doing works. They both make money out of their own systems. The question therefore for us “earthly marketers” is which path to take? Should we spam or should we not?
Spamming is faster but I don’t think it’s long term. Research and giving the people what they want might take longer but it’s long term. Both have benefits. The first brings in money faster and the latter brings in money in the long term.
Anyway, I’ll let you decide. Here are their products:
Howie Schwartz – Bookmark Generation
John Reese – Traffic Secrets 2.0
Before you leave, I thought you might want to take a look at Bookmarking Demon which is similar to Howie’s product but cheaper.
